Im starting a creative challenge for painters to style yourself like your paintings!! 

DRESS LIKE YOUR PAINTING CHALLENGE  #dresslikeyourpaintingchallenge

Painting and the fine arts can be soo serious and aesthetically high stakes sometimes, that as artists we forget why we got into the creative field in the first place. So take a break from studio rumination and turn one of your artworks into fashion inspiration! 

Here is how:

1. Find one or two pieces of clothing that match the dominant color of your painting. That's your starting canvas base piece. This base is most important, as color and pattern create continuity between the painting and the clothes.

2. Find shoes and a bag to complement your base piece. They don't necessary need to match like a set but do need to match occasion-wise for the outfit. Think "what would I wear to a beach?" or "What would I wear out dancing" This makes the outfit look occasion appropriate and wearable. It also prevents the clothes selection from being too all over the place and gives some structure to work around. Now your base is ready!

3. ACCESSORIZE AND CHANNEL YOUR INNER MAGPIE! Paintings have a lot of details, textures and color moments, so mimic those with jewelry, hats, hair clips, wallets, keychains, or a flower behind the ear Dali style haha. Have a heavy hand with this.. as it gives the viewer a lot of objects to visually enjoy and explore.. almost like an I Spy book.

4. Include a personal piece of heirloom jewelry, a memento object or something truly personal to you. This gives the selection truly personal style and gives you an opportunity to share a personal story and open up about your identity and meaningful life experiences.

5. Add a fun piece! Something unexpected, humorous or exciting. In the example that I styled, the fun piece is the Redbull can. I did paint a Redbull tab in the painting soo what better way to add it to the fit than to actually have a Redbull! It also gives an opportunity to tag the brand and help with disability or just give your followers a laugh. Also some artworks have very complex crazy color patters that are easier to find in products like a bag or chips, a drink or toys like a beach ball. I think this adds the final and most fun element to the outfit and brings a TON of JOY to the creative inner child!
